When you book an in-home newborn photography session with me, I don't want you to feel that a complete stranger is arriving at your door. I want you to have an idea of who I am, to see the face behind the camera and to feel a little more comfortable before we meet.

I understand that the newborn stage can be a wonderful but overwhelming time. You are getting to know your little one, finding your new rhythm as a family and adjusting to life with a baby. My aim is to make your photography experience feel calm, personal and as comfortable as possible.

One of the things I love about in-home newborn photography is that you can enjoy your session in a place where you already feel comfortable.

Those first days with a newborn can be exhausting. The thought of packing everything you need, getting everyone ready and travelling to a photography studio may feel like an unnecessary challenge when you are still recovering from birth and settling into parenthood.

That is why I bring the studio-style newborn photography experience to you.

When I visit your home, I bring professional lighting, beautiful newborn wraps, outfits and carefully selected props to create a lovely setting for your photographs. You don't need to buy special equipment, purchase a collection of props or have a dedicated photography room.

We simply need a suitable space in your home where I can set up and work comfortably.

I offer in-home newborn photography sessions in Johannesburg and Pretoria, making professional newborn portraits more convenient for families in these areas.

Your Baby's Comfort Always Comes First

As a parent, you want to know that the person photographing your newborn will be patient, considerate and attentive to your baby's needs.

I believe a newborn session should never feel rushed. Babies need time for feeding, winding, changing and cuddles, and we allow for those little pauses throughout the session.

Every baby is different. Some settle easily, while others need a little more time and reassurance. There is no need to worry if your baby becomes unsettled or if things don't go exactly to plan.

We work around your baby rather than expecting your baby to work around us.

Your little one's comfort and safety are always more important than achieving a particular photograph. Any posing or handling is approached with care, and your baby is never expected to manage an unsafe or unsupported pose.

I want you to feel comfortable asking questions, sharing your concerns and telling me what you need. This is your baby's story, and I want you to feel at ease throughout the experience.

You Don't Need a Perfect Home or a Perfect Day

One of the first things I want new parents to know is that your home doesn't have to be spotless, your nursery doesn't have to be finished and your baby doesn't have to be perfectly settled before I arrive.

You have just welcomed a little person into your life. There are nappies to change, feeds to manage and countless new things to learn. You don't need the added pressure of preparing your entire home for a photoshoot.

I bring the equipment and styling needed for your session, and we work with the space available to us.

If your baby needs a feed or a cuddle, we take a break. If you need a moment to settle yourself, that is perfectly fine too.

I want your photographs to be a reminder of a precious chapter in your family's life, not of a stressful morning spent trying to make everything perfect.

When Is the Best Time to Book Your Newborn Photographer?

If you are expecting a baby, I recommend getting in touch during your pregnancy to discuss your due date and plan your newborn photography session.

At JDL Photography, newborn sessions are ideally scheduled when your baby is between 5 and 18 days old. Booking ahead gives us the opportunity to plan for those precious early days.

Sessions take place in the morning, and we allow time for your baby’s needs throughout the experience.

If your little one has already arrived, please don't hesitate to enquire. We can discuss availability and the most suitable option for your family.

Choosing your photographer before your baby arrives also gives you time to ask questions, explore the available packages and become familiar with the person who will be visiting your home.
